Blackjack: The Card Game Referred to as 21
Blackjack is a casino game that is very popular today and is also known as 21. The reason why blackjack is referred to as 21 is because the main objective of blackjack is to get a total hand value that is equal to or closer to 21 but not over it.
In playing the blackjack game, your hand is only playing against the hand of the dealer and not against any other player at the table you are at. The hand play of the blackjack dealer has some set of specific rules and the dealer must follow these rules strictly, therefore, it is not a big deal if all the players including the blackjack dealer can see the player's card. That is also the reason why blackjack players are usually dealt with face up cards in games that use multiple deck of cards. But in blackjack games where few decks of cards are used, the cards are mostly dealt face down.
In playing with blackjack especially if you are a new player, you don't have to be afraid to show your cards to other players or to the blackjack dealer in order to make inquiry regarding the game.
In the game of blackjack, only each card value is significant and the suits of the cards are absolutely meaningless. The card values of Two through Nine are valued as shown on the cards. Therefore, if you are dealt with a Six and an Eight, the total hand value you have is 14.
In blackjack, the cards of Ten, Jack, Queen, and King have an identical value of Ten. Therefore, if you have a hand of a Ten and a King, the sum would be 20. And if you have the cards of a Five and a Jack, the sum would be 15.
All Aces in blackjack can be valued as One or 11, it all depends on the remaining cards you have at hand. For example, if you have a Six and an Ace, the value could be either Seven or 17. If you won't draw another card, then the value will be 17. But if you draw another card and for example, you get an Eight, then the total value of your hand will be 15 is the Ace is valued as One and 25 if the Ace is valued as 11.
In cases like this, you must opt to value the Ace as One to prevent from getting busted, which means your hand total is over 21 and you will definitely lose your hand.
Busting must be totally avoided in blackjack that is why you must be wise in making decision as to when to draw another card and when to stop drawing cards.
